Full Bio:

Leaf of Life is a Kingston, Jamaica–born roots reggae and dancehall artist whose music blends conscious lyrics, powerful chanting, and the lived experience of a true ghetto youth. Raised in the community of Dunmair Close in Kingston 19, his artistry was shaped by the realities of inner-city life and the spiritual guidance of Rastafari. A self-taught musician, Leaf of Life developed his craft across every aspect of music—writing, composing, producing, and performing—creating songs that speak to struggle, resilience, unity, and healing.

In 2003 he adopted the name Leaf of Life, symbolizing medicine from nature and representing the forest and the healing of the nations. That same year he recorded his first single, “Gully,” on the Middle East riddim. The project featured major dancehall artists such as Mavado and Vybz Kartel and was released through Greensleeves Records in 2004, marking the beginning of his professional recording career.

Known for his sharp freestyle ability and lyrical creativity, Leaf of Life quickly built a reputation for recording and performing relentlessly. Over the years he has released more than 50 musical releases and videos through his independent label Haile Cush Records, while also writing hundreds of additional unreleased songs. His songwriting talent has led him to collaborate with and write for acclaimed reggae artists including Queen Ifrica, for whom he wrote the song “Yad to the East.”

Leaf of Life’s music has reached international audiences and industry recognition. His collaboration with Akae Beka and Lutan Fyah, “So Di World a Run,” reached the Billboard charts, and today his songs can be heard on radio stations from California to Jamaica to Kenya, Australia and beyond. In recognition of his growing impact in music, he was accepted as a member of the Recording Academy.

Beyond music, Leaf of Life is deeply committed to community upliftment. He founded the nonprofit Leaf of Life Youth Rising, an initiative dedicated to empowering youth through education, literacy, and cultural connection. Through this work he helps bridge communities between Kingston, Jamaica and California, providing opportunities and support for young people and families.

His musical and spiritual journey also includes time spent studying within the Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress (EABIC) community in Bobo Hill, Bull Bay, as well as at the School of Vision near Blue Mountain Peak. These experiences deepened his Rastafari faith and strengthened the conscious message that runs throughout his music.

Leaf of Life’s performances have taken him across the Caribbean and the United States. He has appeared at renowned reggae events such as Rebel Salute, St. Mary Mi Come From, and Spice in the Hills, and has toured internationally alongside artists like Tony Rebel and Queen Ifrica, including performances at Madison Square Garden. In the United States he has shared stages with artists such as Anthony B, Chronixx, Gappy Ranks & Capelton and performed at festivals and venues including Reggae on the River, the NYC Reggae Festival, and Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.

Known for originating the phrase “Haile Cush,” a chant heard throughout his music and live performances, Leaf of Life continues to spread positive vibrations and conscious reggae messages around the world. With music rooted in Rastafari principles and a mission focused on uplifting people and communities, his work carries a powerful message of unity, resilience, and healing for the nations.
